CHEERFULNESS

Cheerfulness is like a catalyst which turns down the emotional turmoil into the rippling stream of goodwill and amity. Psychologically it has been proved that our brain can hold only one emotion at a time. If one is cheerful, he cannot be angry or be worried at the same time.
Apart from this, every stressful emotion has its own physical signs and physiological reactions. For example, if a person is angry, he will talk harshly, his brows will knit into a frown, he will clench his hands into fists etc.psychologically too, he will be different from a serene and calm person. His blood pressure will rise abnormally, his heart beating will increase. But if he had been cheerful, he would have sparkling eyes, relaxed and open face, there would not be any place for negative emotion. In consonance with the physical and psychological change, his mind will also become calm and serene which is very necessary to cope up with today’s complicated world. So you are the luckiest if you are cheerful and smiling.
Swami Sivananda says ” Be always cheerful. smile, laugh. A good and positive thought is thrice blessed. First, it benefits the thinker by improving his mental body. Secondly, it benefits the person about whom it is entertained. Lastly, it benefits all mankind by improving the general atmosphere. Ancient Egyptians believed that upon their death they would be asked by God Orisis, two questions and their answers would determine whether they could continue their journey in their afterlife. The first question was “Did you bring joy?” The second was” Did you find joy?” These are searching questions which each one should ask every day
Sydney Smith, An English wit writer and Anglican cleric born in the UK in 1771 recommends us to make at least one person happy every day. Take ten years and you will make 3650 happy or brighten a small town by your contribution to the funds of general joy.
To follow this noble idea, one has to train himself by leading a balanced life with little acts of kindness, the little courtesies, the disposition to the accommodating, to be helpful, caring not to hurt others, not to expose sore spots. This will help develop a positive attitude and shift from Grumbling Street to Thanksgiving Avenue.
Instead of grumbling about thorns with roses show your gratitude for roses with thorns. Development of this positive attitude will make you cheerful and there will be joy in your life.
